More about the data

  • What is the source of this data?

This dashboard uses the Foureyes inventory dataset. To compile this data, Foureyes collects VIN-level merchandising data from over 20,000 new car franchise dealer websites once daily. We then apply normalization and hygiene, including the removal of dealer trades, recalls, and cross-listed duplicate vehicles. Historical data and internal VIN analysis is completed to produce the dataset.
  • How often is this data updated?

While the data is tracked weekly, the dashboard is updated monthly. If you need a more frequent cadence, contact us to learn about getting the data piped directly to you.
  • Does this data factor in inflation?

No. The prices reported are not adjusted for inflation. The prices reported are the prices as they were presented at each point in time shown.
  • How do you define the terms in this dashboard?

For detailed explanations of the terms found in this dashboard, see the article, “How to Use the U.S. Automotive Prices Over Time Dashboard.”
  • Does the data include new and used inventory?

Yes. This dashboard includes new and used car data from franchise dealers in the United States. The data does not include non-franchise dealers or online-only retailers.
  • Can I purchase the inventory data feeding these visualizations?

Yes, the underlying Foureyes inventory dataset is available for purchase. Analysts often use it to support value forecasting, real-time market valuations, demand modeling, and tracking overall market health. For more information, contact us. Foureyes does not sell any confidential dealer or OEM sales data.
