More about the data

  • What is the source of this data?

This dashboard uses the Foureyes inventory dataset. To compile this data, Foureyes collects VIN-level merchandizing data from over 20,000 new car franchise dealer websites once daily. We then apply normalization and hygiene, including the removal of dealer trades, recalls, and cross-listed duplicate vehicles. We identify sales based on changes in merchandising over time.
  • How often is this data updated?

Foureyes updates this dashboard monthly at the beginning of each month. The data is available on a daily basis, and you can contact us if you need access to more frequent reporting.
  • How are you calculating market share?

Foureyes calculates market share on a monthly basis by identifying units sold across all brands. We then divide each brand’s sales in the month by the total sales during that same period and multiply by 100 to get the percentage. While our calculations may underestimate actuals based on our use of a consistent cohort of dealers over the reporting time period, they’ve been found to be indicative in advance of slower, more formal quarterly and annual reports.
  • How do you define the terms in this dashboard?

For detailed explanations of the terms found in this dashboard, see the article, “How to Use the U.S. Automotive New Vehicle Sales and Market Share Dashboard.”
  • Does the data include new and used inventory?

No. This dashboard only includes new and vehicle data from franchise dealers in the United States. While Foureyes has both in our inventory dataset, this dashboard focuses exclusively on new vehicle sales and new vehicle market share by brand.
  • Can I purchase the inventory data feeding these visualizations?

Yes, the underlying Foureyes inventory dataset is available for purchase. Analysts often use it to support value forecasting, real-time market valuations, demand modeling, and tracking overall market health. For more information, contact us. Foureyes does not sell any confidential dealer or OEM sales data.
  • Can I share or cite this data in my work?

Yes. You are welcome to reference the dashboard in your research, reporting, or analysis. Please attribute it to the Foureyes U.S. Automotive Prices Over Time Dashboard and include a link back to this page so readers can access the live, interactive dataset.
